PSV Eindhoven will have scar tissue from last year’s Champions League play-off with Rangers. I have no doubt about that.

And the fact that they go into this year’s second leg on the back of exactly the same 2-2 scoreline as they got at Ibrox last season - and couldn’t finish the job at home - will be preying on their mind.

The Dutch got slaughtered in their homeland for losing to a Scottish team back then, so they’ll know what’s coming to them if Michael Beale’s team do a number on them as Gio van Bronckhorst’s side did a year ago.

Rangers can take advantage of that fear, rip away that scar tissue and make them hurt all over again on Wednesday night. Mick has obviously overhauled the squad from last season but for all the talk of PSV being a vastly improved team from last year’s showdown, they still had seven players starting on Tuesday who were part of the side cut down by Antonio Colak’s goal last August.

I’ve sampled the Philips Stadion as a player I can tell you, it’s an intimidating place. But you saw previously what happened when PSV failed to take command, the crowd got anxious and that soon spread through the players on the pitch. And if Beale’s side can stick in and do the same, a Rangers repeat might just be on the cards.

They’ll have to defend well - certainly better than they did the other night when they allowed Luuk de Jong to nod home from a simple set-piece. And they might only get the odd chance, so the Rangers frontmen will have to be bang at it from the start.

There won’t be time to feel their way into the game like they did for much of the first half before Abdallah Sima’s stunner lit the blue touch paper for another epic Ibrox encounter. But if Rangers can find a way to hush the PSV crowd then
