Michael Beale set Rangers non-negotiable in Europa League opener as one man named obvious candidate to gun Betis down
Michael Beale must have his Rangers stars flying out the traps in Europe and Kemar Roofe could be the man to get them out the starting block, according to Barry Ferguson
The Light Blues are heading into Europa League action against La Liga opposition on Thursday and the Record Sport columnist insists that defeat is unthinkable for his former club. Boss Beale relieved some heat around him with a comfortable 2-0 win over St Johnstone on Saturday but it came at a cost as £7m man Danilo suffered a compound fracture that looks set to leave him on the sidelines for a period of time.
Speaking to the Go Radio Football Show, Ferguson insists a 5-0 mauling dished out by Barcelona to Betis was eye-opening and that Roofe can be the man to fill the Danilo void. He said: "They are at home and they are not in great form. They got absolutely battered at the weekend.
"I know it's Barcelona who have some top players but I would expect Rangers to come away with at least if not three points, a point. They have to take some confidence out the game at the weekend.
"Danilo is the disappointing thing for me. I just thought this would kick him on, good goal and he's had no luck with that type of inuyr. But it happens in football and it's why you have a big squad. Somebody else will need to come in and take that place. For me, I would put Kemar Roofe right up top."
