Aston Villa: 18 y/o 'local lad' is 'one to watch' at Villa Park

Aston Villa star Teddy Rowe is “one to watch” at Villa Park, according to BirminghamLive journalist Ashley Preece.

The teenager has made just one appearance for the first-team but has already established himself as a regular for the club’s Under-21s.

Despite sitting on one solitary outing for his boyhood club, it's been an exciting couple of years for the 18-year-old.

Rowe made his debut as part of an inexperienced team that came up against a Liverpool side including Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and co. during an FA Cup game two seasons ago following a Covid-19 outbreak in the Villa squad.

He hasn't been involved in the first-team since that memorable evening at Villa Park back in January 2021.

But his form for Villa's youth sides saw him rewarded with his first professional contract in July.

And with the midfielder now a permanent figure for the Under-21s, Preece believes the Midlands outfit have high hopes for the talented youngster.

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Teddy Rowe is a local lad. He's a good youth prospect, Villa think highly of him as well and we will see how his development goes throughout this season, but he's one to watch."

Rowe might appear any closer to getting a call-up from Steven Gerrard, but he's made progress.

That's because, along with his five Premier League 2 appearances, Rowe has turned out twice in the EFL Trophy, a competition which gives younger players the perfect chance to experience first-team football.

He started both of Villa's group stage games, which have been against League One side Portsmouth and League Two outfit AFC Wimbledon.

They lost both, but the opportunity for Rowe to test himself in men's football should hold him in good stead moving forward.
