Arne Slot insists Celtic on different level from Rangers as Feyenoord boss declares comparisons pointless

Arne Slot says there's no comparison between Celtic and Rangers - and says he has a unique respect for the Hoops since they are the only other champions in their group.

Feyenoord boss Slot was speaking to the media ahead of the Champions League showdown in Rotterdam where the Eredivisie and Premiership champions go toe to toe on opening day. They're joined by Atletico Madrid and Lazio in one of the most open groups in the competition and both sides feel they have a serious chance of progress.

The fighting talk has been on ahead of the game but Slot was full of praise for Brendan Rodgers' team. When asked to compare them to rivals Rangers, who were thumped by Feyenoord's Dutch rivals PSV in the playoff, he said: "PSV won easily at home, away they didn't win. Celtic have only lost to them once in the last meetings. Celtic have been a better club in the last decade, I think you have to rate them differently than Rangers."

When asked about qualification chances, Slot went on: "If you want to get through you will have to win almost every home game. It's not like I will rate any of the three clubs differently. Celtic are the only champions and you have to have a lot of respect for that."

The boss was also asked who the Celtic danger men are and pinpointed Kyogo and Daizen Maeda as the main men. He added: "There are a lot of players I admire. The striker (Kyogo) but also the left winger (Maeda) as well, they do a lot of threatening deep runs. But I also like the midfield and the style they play. It's my belief that the players all have individual skills but they can grow because of the team."
