Argentina boss gives brutal explanation for snubbing Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho

Alejandro Garnacho wasn't called up to the Argentina squad because of his recent form, manager Lionel Scaloni has admitted.

The Manchester United starlet was a surprise omission from the Argentina squad ahead of the current international break. The young winger made his debut for his country in June.

Garnacho has gone on to earn three caps and was called up to the world champions' squad for the September and October breaks. However, he only managed to play six minutes across them both and has found himself out of the squad this time around.

Former United forward Angel Di Maria has instead returned to the squad to take his place and manager Scaloni was honest in his explanation when asked why Garnacho wasn't involved. “The reason for not calling up Garnacho? Ale’s non-selection is due to a form issue," he said in his press conference.

"We don’t like to bring players in and constantly leave them out or leave them out of the squad. Everyone wants to be there and it’s great, but the human side plays and you have to make decisions.”

Ironically, the snub comes at a time when Garnacho has started to become a regular starter in the United team. Erik ten Hag has selected the 19-year-old in the last four matches in succession, his longest run in the side.

Scaloni was also mindful of not having Garnacho travel all the way to South America for little game time but insisted there will be more opportunities for him in the future. He added: “It would have been easy to bring him in, but in the last few call-ups he didn’t get minutes and there are times when you have to make decisions, but he’s a guy who’s on our radar and he’s going
