Apple's latest iOS 18 features mocked by Android users who say 'welcome to 2015'

The long-standing battle between Android and Apple enthusiasts has been reignited.

Apple, the tech behemoth, unveiled its eagerly awaited iOS 18 update at the WorldWide Developers Conference earlier this week.

Set to be released for certain devices come autumn, the new operating system promises to be more 'personal, capable and intelligent than ever', boasting a slew of fresh customisation features.

Come autumn, iPhone aficionados will have the ability to schedule iMessages, dispatch texts via satellite, and 'lock' apps for enhanced security a function that's already being dubbed a 'cheater's paradise'. Yet, it's one particular update that has caught the attention of Android supporters, who claim they've had access to this feature for years.

"iPhone users have new ways to customise the Home Screen, Lock Screen, and Control Center," Apple announced. "Users can now arrange apps and widgets in any open space on the Home Screen, including placing them right above the dock for easy access or perfectly framing a wallpaper."

In addition to breaking away from the traditional grid layout of apps, iPhone users will also get the chance to edit their icons and widgets with a 'dark or tinted' effect. If this sounds familiar, it's because many Android handsets already offer these customisation options.

Many Android users took to X (previously known as Twitter) to poke fun at Apple for only just launching this feature. A sarcastic welcome greeted the tech giant with one user stating: "Welcome to 2015, I guess," Echoing this sentiment, another user added: "Someone tell Apple, Android did it first."
