Ange could turn Rangers kingmaker after Kevin Muscat 'advice' confession as Postecoglou's prediction almost a reality

Former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou could play a major role in Kevin Muscat's move to Rangers if he is chosen by the Ibrox board to step into the hot seat.

The former Ibrox midfielder is among the leading candidates to replace Michael Beale alongside Philippe Clement with James Bisgrove and the board weighing up the contenders who will kickstart their season in the Scottish Premiership - with Celtic holding a seven point advantage with the top flight in cold storage for the international break. But should he be offered the role it's likely that he will be on the phone to one man immediately - Tottenham boss Postecoglou.

Muscat has served under Postecoglou and continued his all-out attacking football philosophy with Yokohama F. Marinos as he led the club to the J-League title after his fellow countrymen left for Celtic. And he previously conceded he leans on his mentor for advice - which could see the Spurs boss play a key role in any move to Rangers.

There is few better allies to go to than the former Celtic boss - who steered the Hoops to a Treble last term. And he will have plenty of knowledge on Brendan Rodgers side that he can offer as background.

Speaking to Optus Sport earlier this year about Postecoglou, Muscat said: "I'm fortunate to have access to someone of his ability first and foremost, but greater than that is someone who's so giving with his time and with his advice and mentorship - not only for myself, but for anyone who reaches out really.

“I don't think you realise how he has helped so many, many people. I feel fortunate for that but I feel even greater just to be able to call him a friend.
