Sam Jewell in Rangers director of football frame as Ibrox hierarchy 'keen' on brains behind Brighton talent spotting

Rangers have reporedly eyed Sam Jewell as a target to become their director of football.

It's claimed by the Scottish Sun that the Ibrox hiearchy "are keen on the starfinder to head a new-look team." Jewell is currently head of recruitment at forward-thinking English Premier League side Brighton, having been appointed in February this year. He joined the Seagulls in May 2016 as recruitment manager for the men’s U21s and became emerging talent manager in March 2019.

The Light Blues have not replaced Ross Wilson's sporting director role since his move to Nottingham Forest last season, and allowed Michael Beale to take control over summer recruitment. It has been met with much criticism and Rangers are on the verge of appointing either Philippe Clement or Kevin Muscat to replace him as boss after sacking him last month. Now it is claimed that alongside a new man in the dugout, they want to 'snap up' a transfer guru upstairs.

Jewell is viewed as the brains behind signings like Moises Caicedo, who broke the British transfer record when signing for Chelsea in the summer. It won't be easy to tempt him though, as he has been chased by Premier League clubs in the past and remained in post.
