Alvaro Fernandez excited by three things Mason Mount can offer Manchester United

Alvaro Fernandez has hailed three aspects of Mason Mount’s game that should excite Manchester United supporters.

The playmaker has made his unofficial debut for the Reds following his £60m switch from Chelsea. The new No.7 became the first signing of the summer and he has impressed Fernandez, who has been taken on the pre-season tour of the US.

The left-back - who spent last season on loan at Preston - has featured in three friendlies so far, having played with Mount against Leeds and Lyon. And the Spaniard said he has been taken aback by the skills his new teammate has displayed on the training pitch.

“It surprised me because he was not a player that I looked at in a game,” Fernandez admitted to AS. “But in training you can see the quality, the technique and the ability that he has - he is very good.”

Fernandez recorded a brilliant assist in United’s 3-1 loss to Wrexham on Wednesday. His cross allowed right-back Marc Jurado to find the net just before half-time for the young side’s only goal of the contest.

It is not certain whether he will be kept on in the senior squad next season or move on loan elsewhere given Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are ahead of him in the pecking order. Either way, he is enjoying the style of play Erik ten Hag has implemented at United.

Fernandez, 20, added: “It's different, but I like it. From the first minute you are clear about what you want. I like what we play: pressure, fast transition... I like it.”
