Alvaro Fernandez sends Erik ten Hag message with Manchester United future uncertain

Alvaro Fernandez insists he is 'ready to go' after an encouraging start to his pre-season push for a first-team place with Manchester United.

Fernandez enjoyed two impressive starts in wins against Leeds and Lyon, but lost his starting place to the returning Luke Shaw for the United States tour. The 20-year-old reunited with his younger teammates for a 3-1 defeat to Wrexham before joining back up with the senior squad ahead of Monday's meeting with Borussia Dortmund.

The left-back spent last season on loan at Preston North End, racking up an impressive 39 Championship appearances and registering four assists. With Shaw and Tyrell Malacia ahead of him in the pecking order, the Spaniard has been touted for another move away, but he insists he is ready for whatever comes his way.

"We start [pre-season] three weeks ago,” Fernandez told MUTV. "Let’s see what happens. I feel very good with my team-mates, I’m just ready to go."

Last season's spell at Deepdale was Fernandez's first taste of senior football, and the youngster impressed from the off despite the rigours of Championship football. He looks back fondly on the experience.

"It was a great moment for me and my family," he added. "I appreciate that moment from Preston. In my case, it was a big experience for me. I went away, 40 minutes away from Manchester, that was very good, a very good league, a lot of games; two every week.

"I felt very good with the team, good team-mates, and the [most] important [thing] was the experience to get there, it was very good."
