Ally McCoist slams the Rangers panic button after Aris 'carnage' as he throws major next boss demand at Ibrox board

Raging Ally McCoist has branded the situation at Rangers "carnage" after their miserable Europa League defeat to Cypriot minnows Aris Limassol.

The nightmare result for interim boss Steven Davis adds to the misery enveloping Ibrox after Michael Beale was shown the door following the lacklustre Scottish Premiership defeat to Aberdeen. The club are on the hunt for a new boss with Kevin Muscat and Frank Lampard appearing to be the frontrunners at this stage. But McCoist has piled the pressure on the decision makers calling for a major "change in direction" after the Aris humbling.

The irked Rangers hero didn't pull any punches as he discussed the situation at Ibrox as the flops return from Cyprus to face in-form St Mirren before heading into the international break. He told the talkSPORT Breakfast Show: “It’s been carnage. It was poor last night – really, really poor. I watched it and we’re just going to have to change direction and get somebody in."

Pressed on who could be the next boss: "I’m not sure, if I’m 100 per cent honest with you, because for three or four days I’ve been trying to keep in touch but I know they’ve interviewed one or two, Frank Lampard has been mentioned.

“But this time, 100 per cent, Rangers have got to get it right in terms of the next manager. You’ve got to be honest, it’s not been good enough by any stretch of the imagination.”
