Gabriel Agbonlahor calls Ally McCoist out on Scotland gloom as he turns Tartan Army cheerleader for Spain clash

Ally McCoist stopped short of backing Scotland to get a result against Spain and qualify for Germany - prompting Gabby Agbonlahor to ask him 'why not?'

Steve Clarke's team are in Seville on Thursday night to take on Spain knowing a point will send them to Euro 2024 with two games to spare. They might not even need that to qualify in this international window but Clarke has urged his team to make sure of it themselves, and after five straight wins to kick things off - including a stunning 2-0 victory over the Spaniards at Hampden - confidence is high we can do it.

McCoist was skeptical on talkSPORT yesterday though as the former Scotland striker expressed doubt they can upset Spain again. But former England forward Agbonlahor wasn't having his fellow pundit's negativity. He was on the breakfast show with Alan Brazil on Thursday morning and said: "I heard Ally on the radio yesterday and he was saying 'hmm, I'm not sure.'

"But why not? I don't see why Scotland can't. This isn't the Spain side of old. It's not the Spain everyone's frightened of and Scotland are playing well. They've got some good players, John McGinn's doing well, McTominay's on fire, there's no reason why they can't get a draw tonight."
