Alfredo Morelos hails rewarding Rangers comeback with 'hand of God' statement after Kilmarnock goal

Alfredo Morelos thanked a higher power after his “rewarding” return to action for Rangers. And the Colombian has vowed to further improve “by the hand of God” after scoring on his return to action.

El Bufalo had been sidelined for four months after a thigh muscle tear forced him to miss the Premiership title run in last season, including the Gers Europa League final defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt and their Scottish Cup final victory over Hearts.

Gio van Bronckhorst brought in Antonio Colak during the summer transfer window and the new number nine opened his league account with the opener against Kilmarnock. Morelos was then introduced from the bench and sealed the win with a late second at Ibrox. He’s now in contention to start against Union Saint-Gilloise on Tuesday night as the Light Blues look to launch a salvage mission after a damaging 2-0 first leg defeat in Leuven.

Match fitness will come with time, but that’s not a luxury Rangers have in the Champions League just now. They must create history and overturn a two-goal first leg defeat for the first time in a European game if they want to keep their chances of making the group stages alive and progress to face either Monaco or PSV.

But Morelos plans to do all he can to get back to his best after a lengthy lay-off. He took to twitter to express his thanks for marking his comeback by getting on the scoresheet against Killie.

He tweeted: “It is very rewarding for me to return to the courts after four months of recovery to have the blessing of returning with a goal, it is very satisfying... I will continue to be strong and advance every day more by the hand of God”
