Ten years ago this weekend Rangers were running out at Shielfield in the fourth division of Scottish football. A decade on from that Berwick draw and the destination on every Gers fan’s mind is ANFIELD in the top echelon of the European game.

Honestly, if ever a moment captured this remarkable journey back to the very top it was when big Yaya Toure plucked Rangers out of the bowl and landed them in a Champions League group with Liverpool, Ajax and Napoli. Forget any talk of a group of death - this is a field of DREAMS. Rangers have hit the jackpot. A battle of Britain that could sell out Ibrox three times over isn’t a bad start.

I was lucky enough to play against some of the top sides on the continent but I never got to taste an all-British affair and let me tell you a trip to Anfield would have my blood pumping. The draw is mouthwatering but it’s also a real opportunity to go and do something incredible.

Obviously the big man coming back to Glasgow, Virgil Van Dijk, will draw some headlines and I don’t care about his allegiance with Celtic he is the best defender in the world for me.

He strolls through games and when you see him interviewed at the end it looks like he’s not played a minute. Andy Robertson too, Scotland captain and another class act. They’re a top team, Salah, Firmino - it’s fantasy stuff. But you can’t just roll over as an opponent. Completely the opposite you have to get right in their face and that’s what Rangers will do.
