It has been a quiet January window for Celtic so far – but things are set to ramp up with the arrival of Nicolas Kuhn.

Brendan Rodgers has demanded quality and he will hope the Rapid Vienna man can make the difference for his side in the Scottish Premiership run-in – just like some of the crucial winter window arrivals that have come before the German. Signing top talent is often a struggle at the midway point in the campaign, but the Parkhead side have made a habit of signing the right player at the right time.

Rodgers has been in this position during his first spell and will know the players he wants to bring in before the end of the month – with Mark Lawwell tasked with making the Irishman's dreams a reality with deadline day fast approaching. But Lawwell and the Celtic boss may look back at previous years for some tips on how to land the best bargain for their buck.

Signed from Derby County in January 2011 Kris Commons went on to win eight domestic trophies during his six-and-a-half years at Celtic Park. His wand of a left foot saw him bag double figures goal tallies in four season while playing under Neil Lennon, Ronny Deila and Rodgers.

Throughout his time in Glasgow, Commons managed to bag 91 goals in 218 appearances. He eventually fell out of favour when Rodgers headed north and was loaned to Hibs during the 2016/17 season.
