Brendan Rodgers Rangers VAR quip riles Hotline as enraged punter asks one question of Celtic boss - Hotline

Just when you think you’re out, Scottish football finds a way to drag you back into another VAR-gate rammy.

The furore over Rangers’ Parkhead penalty complaints looked to have died down until Sunday, when Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers couldn’t resist a sly little swipe at his Ibrox rivals following the Hoops’ Scottish Cup win over Buckie Thistle. Rodgers gave a wink as he aimed a pop at the Light Blues having seen VAR deny his side a penalty in the opening minutes, even though the review showed Liel Abada had strayed offside in the build up. “If it’s offside then the penalty doesn’t even matter…as we know,” grinned the Celtic manager.

But Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, wasn’t laughing as he said: “Why did VAR look for a penalty for Celtic against Buckie Thistle where there was a clear offside, yet refused to do the same for Rangers against Celtic? I don't recognise the game any more.”

The holders cruised into the last 16 - where they face a trip to St Mirren - as they swept five goals past their Highland League opponents. But Stephen Mulhern said: “If there was any more evidence required that David Turnbull doesn’t figure in Brendan Rodgers’ plans, surely that was confirmed on Sunday? With the absence of Callum McGregor in midfield, as a Turnbull fan I thought he’d be given a start. Instead, he was once again left warming the bench. It surely makes sense for both parties for him
