Ronny Deila lacked confidence in Celtic players and insists Club Brugge crop can help him achieve his ambitions

Ronny Deila admits he didn't have confidence in his Celtic players despite giving them a 90 per cent chance of winning the title.

The Norwegian delivered two Premiership crowns in both seasons at Parkhead. However, his nearest challengers were Aberdeen after Rangers were demoted to the bottom tier in 2012 and were still working their way back up the divisions. By the time they were back in the top flight, Deila was gone and Brendan Rodgers was at the helm, going unbeaten in his first campaign.

Now with Club Brugge, Deila admits the challenge is greater in Belgium. And he's revealed he knew he wouldn't achieve what he wanted to do at Parkhead because he wasn't confident in the players at his disposal. But he's insisted he is enjoying it far more than he did with the Hoops, who he managed from 2014-2016 and won two titles and a League Cup.

He said: "I'm impressed by the win-every-game mentality here. There is never satisfaction after a victory. It’s a club that has big dreams and is ambitious. After a win, you want to move on to the next match as quickly as possible. In fact, we never feel absolute satisfaction.

"It was different at Celtic. When you start the league season there, you have a nine out of ten chance of winning it. Here the challenge is much greater. I have really liked being in the Europa Conference League and it was one of the reasons why I came to the club. I have learned a lot and had a lot of fun.

"At Celtic it was much less the case, because I never felt like I could do or achieve what I wanted to do with my group of players. When I look at the current group of players, I know I can achieve my goals. In Belgium, every game is hard because teams are incredibly good at getting the best out of their squad.
