A woman has been arrested and a dog has been seized after a young child was mauled in Monsall on Sunday afternoon (June 4). Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were scrambled to the scene of the attack on Swanley Avenue where an 11-year-old child was rushed to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed that the dog has been seized by officers and that a woman, aged 35, remains in custody after being arrested on suspicion of having a dog dangerously out of control. A scene was put in place along Swanley Avenue, with a number of police vehicles and ambulances at the scene in the immediate aftermath with GMP now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Superintendent Nicola Williams of GMP City of Manchester Division said: “This is an awful attack that has left an 11-year-old boy with serious injuries and his family are understandably incredibly distressed by what has happened. “I understand the concern an incident of this nature will cause in the wider community, and I want to reassure you that we will carry out an extensive investigation into what has happened. “The dog has been secured and we have made an arrest of a woman who remains in police custody.
