Newcastle United have made Kalvin Phillips their 'priority' for the January transfer window following elimination from the Champions League, according to reports.
Eddie Howe's side were dumped out of Europe at the group stage after losing 2-1 at home to AC Milan on Wednesday. Having finished bottom of Group F, they will not have any European football beyond Christmas and focus will now fully turn on retaining a top-four place.
The Magpies have been plagued by injury issues throughout the season and have also lost defensive midfielder Sandro Tonali to a 10-month ban for breaching the Italian FA's betting regulations.
And now according to i News, they have identified Phillips as the man to fill the gap. Phillips scored his first goal for Manchester City from the penalty spot in Wednesday's 3-2 win over Crvena zvezda but looks set to leave in January.
