Morrisons turns down checkout beeps for 'weird' reason after Queen's death

Shoppers in Morrisons have been left baffled after being unable to hear their items scanning - because the sound has been turned down after stores switched off music and tannoy announcements as a mark of respect to the Queen.

One shopper took to Reddit to tell of his experience in-store, where he noticed shoppers seemed to be struggling at self-service machines more than usual.

When it got to his turn, he said he couldn't hear the beep, and was told by a member of staff that they had been changed due to the period of national mourning. "I still don't think I understand...," the shopper wrote in their now-viral post.
