Manchester United have always been confident that Marcus Rashford would pen a new deal despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

He is the latest of a string of academy success stories and one that will continue for a little while longer. The striker is set to pen a new deal on wages north of £300,000-a-week with the possibility he could become the club’s highest earner.

The likes of Steven Gerrard and more recently Harry Kane will tell you that playing for the club you love is worth more than your weight in gold, albeit Rashford seems poised to get that at Old Trafford anyway.

Speaking in December 2020, Rashford unpacked his attachment to his beloved United. "It is a lot deeper than what people see sometimes," he said. "It will forever be greater than probably my actual career because they are the reason I have become a footballer, they have given me the opportunity to express myself and to find out I had talent in football." That opportunity has extended into the last 24 months.
