Marcus Rashford has already outlined his stance on staying at Manchester United amid contract talks

Manchester United have always been confident that Marcus Rashford would pen a new deal despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

He is the latest of a string of academy success stories and one that will continue for a little while longer. The striker is set to pen a new deal on wages north of £300,000-a-week with the possibility he could become the club’s highest earner.

The likes of Steven Gerrard and more recently Harry Kane will tell you that playing for the club you love is worth more than your weight in gold, albeit Rashford seems poised to get that at Old Trafford anyway.

Speaking in December 2020, Rashford unpacked his attachment to his beloved United. "It is a lot deeper than what people see sometimes," he said.

"I think people see some of the stuff that has been happening since I've been in the first team but the bond that I have with United is much greater than these last five years.

"It will forever be greater than probably my actual career because they are the reason I have become a footballer, they have given me the opportunity to express myself and to find out I had talent in football."

That opportunity has extended into the last 24 months. Rashford endured a dismal 2021/22 season, scoring just five times amid a severe lack of confidence.

There were strong calls from some that he should look to continue his career elsewhere beyond Old Trafford amid links with PSG last summer.

Such a scenario was unlikely - after the shifts Rashford had put in during previous years, Rashford had earned some leeway.
