Manchester restaurant on edge of Chinatown handed prestigious Michelin award

A Manchester restaurant has become one of 20 eateries in the UK and Ireland to be awarded a coveted Michelin award. Higher Ground, on the outskirts of Chinatown, has been handed a prestigious Bib Gourmand.

It comes just a week before the highly anticipated Michelin ceremony for Great Britain & Ireland. The awards, which will see Michelin stars handed out will take place at Manchester's historic Midland Hotel on 5 January, with many hopefully that the city will be recognised.

Named after Bibendum - the official name of the award's mascot, The Michelin Man - the Bib Gourmand award was created in 1997 and is given to restaurants deemed to offer "great" quality and value cooking.
