David de Gea has sent a cryptic wordless message a few hours after Manchester United sacked Erik ten Hag. The shot-stopper left Old Trafford at the end of his contract last summer, having made a club record 545 appearances as a goalkeeper in United colours, winning five major trophies since joining in 2011.

Ten Hag chose to replace the Spaniard with Andre Onana from Inter Milan after working with the Cameroonian at Ajax. De Gea spent almost a year without a club before joining Italian Serie A side Florentina this summer.

The 33-year-old has made eight appearances so far this season, keeping two clean sheets across all competitions.
