A40 closed in both directions for hours due to a serious collision - live updates

The A40 has been closed for some time following a collision in Carmarthenshire. Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed at around 3.34am on X, formerly known as Twitter, that they were are the scene of a collision on the A40 between Llandovery and Manordeilo.

The police force has warned the road will be likely be closed for most of the day. Traffic monitoring service, Inrix, has also confirmed that the road is closed in both directions. The incident has reportedly been ongoing since Saturday evening.

Their traffic update reads: "The A40 in both directions closed due to accident investigation work between Llandovery railway station and the A482 (Llanwrda). Following a serious accident on Saturday evening."

Later this morning, Traffic Wales also confirmed the road is likely to remain closed both directions for some time due to a police investigation. Previously, the A4069 between Llandovery and Llangadog was used as a diversion for cars, but has now closed due to a collision and cannot be used as a diversion.

Meanwhile, a bit further along on the A40, the road is closed due to construction in both directions from Llywel turn off to Pentre-ty-Gwyn turn off. These are ongoing weekend roadworks, according to AA.
