Despite growing up in Germany and previously being affiliated with Bochum, Borussia Dortmund, Nuremberg and, briefly, Schalke, the 24-time Turkish champions are his team and Gundogan comes from a family of Galatasaray supporters.
With his parents being born in Turkey, there would be an emotional element to playing there, if a deal eventually happens. When asked about ending his career, Gundogan kept the possibility of playing for Galatasaray alive - just weeks after heading back to City from the Camp Nou.
