Steven Gerrard insists he doesn’t want Mo Salah to become the latest big name to join him in the Saudi Pro League – because he wants the Egyptian star to stay at Liverpool and help win more trophies.

Reports in the Middle East claimed reigning champions Al Ittihad – who signed former Celtic star Jota and already have Karim Benzema – were lining up a £60million move for Salah and were set to pay him £150m over two years.

But the 31-year-old signed a new Reds deal last year and his agent Ramy Abbas shot down any notion of him leaving. And now former Rangers gaffer and current Al-Ettifaq boss Gerrard has responded to the reports in an interview with Sada Al Mala’eb.

And he laughed: “Haha, no! No, no – the answer is no,” he replied. Because Mohamed Salah is my favourite player, I love Liverpool Football Club, so Mohamed can stay where he is.
