Chatham Town are hosting a charity match this Sunday in memory of a young fan who died of a rare genetic disease. Eight-year-old Freddy Leitch, from Gillingham, was born with chronic granulomatous disorder, leaving him prone to infections.

More: “The lads have been nothing short of amazing.” He attended home games when he could, including the win that clinched the Isthmian South East title, and he was visited in hospital by some of the players. “They made his last days very special, and they made him smile,” said mum Kirsty.

A fundraising day will see proceeds go towards Demelza and the CGD Society – a charity supporting people and families affected by the condition.

Chats will play against a team of friends and family dressed as Freddy’s favourite superheroes, which includes professional boxer Dennis McCann.
