Fabrizio Romano reveals Man Utd close to Daniel Bachmann deal but must satisfy Watford request

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester United are in talks to sign Austrian goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann from Watford. The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new backup stopper after veteran Lee Grant retired, while normal No.2 Dean Henderson is closing in on a switch to Nottingham Forest.

That leaves just Tom Heaton as understudy to David de Gea and Erik ten Hag wants another keeper on board. A move for Hornets star Bachmann has been mooted for some weeks.

And now transfer insider Romano has confirmed that a transfer to United is close. Watford are moving on from several of the senior players after suffering relegation last season. Bachmann is not expected to come in and challenge De Gea for the first-team job.

However, aged 27, he will be a more than useful second or third-strong stopper. All that remains is for the two clubs to agree a fee, with Watford only interested in a permanent transfer.
