There is something about the Europa League that brings out the very best of Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen. The Danish international claimed his fourth direct goal contribution of United's Europa League campaign on Thursday evening, scoring the opener in their 1-1 draw with Fenerbahce at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in Istanbul.
His strike, though it was not enough to secure United their maiden victory in Europe this season, marked his second goal in three Europa League appearances this season, adding to the fine goal he scored against FC Twente on matchday one. As well as starring in the Europa League, Eriksen, who is out of contract at the end of this season, also played a key role in United's 7-0 thrashing of Barnsley in the Carabao Cup last month, scoring two goals and claiming one assist.
For a player whose United career looked as though it was going to hit the buffers during the summer, Eriksen's start to the season has been a ray of positivity that has shone through the darkness.
