Erik ten Hag was right about a current Manchester United undroppable

There is something about the Europa League that brings out the very best of Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen.

The Danish international claimed his fourth direct goal contribution of United's Europa League campaign on Thursday evening, scoring the opener in their 1-1 draw with Fenerbahce at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in Istanbul.

His strike, though it was not enough to secure United their maiden victory in Europe this season, marked his second goal in three Europa League appearances this season, adding to the fine goal he scored against FC Twente on matchday one.

Sandwiched between the goals he plundered against Twente and Fenerbahce, the midfielder also helped himself to two assists in the 3-3 draw with FC Porto earlier this month, meaning he has been directly involved in four of United's five Europa League goals so far this term.

As well as starring in the Europa League, Eriksen, who is out of contract at the end of this season, also played a key role in United's 7-0 thrashing of Barnsley in the Carabao Cup last month, scoring two goals and claiming one assist.

For a player whose United career looked as though it was going to hit the buffers during the summer, Eriksen's start to the season has been a ray of positivity that has shone through the darkness. He was excellent in his maiden season at Old Trafford, forming a strong midfield bond with Casemiro, but gradually saw his opportunities dry up last season, impacted by the sharp rise of Kobbie Mainoo.
