Pakistan Star, Picked For Champions Trophy, Lost 10kg Weight. Reason Is Grim

Set to make his Pakistan comeback, opener Fakhar Zaman has revealed the reason behind his recent absence from the national set up. Fakhar, who last played for Pakistan during the T20 World Cup last year, seemingly landed himself in trouble after criticising the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for dropping Babar Azam from the Test team last year. In October 2024, Babar was dropped from the last two Tests against England as Pakistan completed a turn around and won the series in his absence.

Azam ends century drought as Pakistan seal Sri Lanka ODI series

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: Babar Azam hit his first international century since August 2023 to lift Pakistan to an emphatic eight-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the second day-night international on Friday. Azam notched an unbeaten 102 for his 20th one-day international century to help Pakistan overtake Sri Lanka’s 289-run target at Rawalpindi Stadium. The win gave Pakistan a 2-0 unassailable lead in the three-match series with the final match on Sunday. Pakistan won the first match by six runs — all in Rawalpindi. Arriving at the crease amidst a huge roar from the crowd after opener Saim Ayub fell for 33 in the 10th over, Azam played his famous cover drives to perfection. He reached the three-figure mark with a pulled single off pacer Pramod Madushan, raised his bat to the crowd before bowing to the ground. Azam had gone 33 ODI innings without a hundred and 82 innings in all, including Tests and Twenty20 internationals. Azam added a 100-run stand for the second wicket with Fakhar Zaman who scored an aggressive 78 with a six and eight boundaries to set up a successful chase. Sri Lanka fumbled in the field, dropping Zaman on 20, 28 and 78 before Janith Liyanage pulled off a stunner off pacer Dushmantha Chameera but it was too late. Building on the platform, Mohammad Rizwan, who scored 51 not out, added another 112 for the unbroken third wicket stand with Azam deservedly hitting the winning single. Azam cracked eight boundaries while Rizwan’s knock had a six and five boundaries. A delighted Azam said: “I was also waiting for my century, so I am thankful to the Almighty,” said Azam.

Spinners power India to win over Pakistan in Asia Cup

DUBAI: Spinners led by Kuldeep Yadav helped India thrash Pakistan by seven wickets in the Asia Cup on Sunday as the neighbors met on the cricket pitch for the first time since a military conflict between them in May. Kuldeep returned figures of 3-18 and along with fellow spinner Axar Patel kept Pakistan down to 127-9 in a key Group A T20 clash in Dubai. India lost two wickets after a fiery 31 off 13 balls from opener Abhishek Sharma, but skipper Suryakumar Yadav hit an unbeaten 47 to achieve the target with 25 balls to spare. Suryakumar put on 56 runs with left-hander Tilak Varma, who hit 31 before being bowled by Saim Ayub. The captain stood firm and hit the winning six as Indian fans celebrated at a stadium, which had alot of empty seats, and the players from both teams went off without handshakes. Abhishek came out roaring as he hit Pakistan pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi for a four and a six and, despite the fall of Shubman Gill in the next over, kept up the charge. Swashbuckling Abhishek cracked four boundaries and two sixes before he mistimed another attempt for a maximum to be caught at long-off off spinner Ayub. India’s bowlers set up the dominant win as Axar, who took 2-18, and Kuldeep combined to rattle the opposition batting, which suffered from a lack of partnerships. Hardik Pandya struck in the first over to dismiss opener Ayub for a golden duck and fellow quick Jasprit Bumrah sent back wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Haris for three. Sahibzada Farhan, who top-scored with 40, attempted to rebuild the innings along with Fakhar Zaman, who made 17, in a partnership of 39. Axar broke the stand with his left-arm spin as he got Zaman caught out and in his next over had skipper Salman Agha out for three. Left-ar

Pakistan's ODI captain Mohammad Rizwan chose India's prime pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, as the bowler who has caused him difficulty in the present scenario. For his fellow compatriot Fakhar Zaman, it is English tearaway Jofra Archer when he has the new ball in his hand. In a special show, Rizwan, Fakhar and Naseem Shah had a candid chat with former Pak pacer Wahab Riaz playing the host's role. Wahab posed a question to Pakistan's famed cricketing faces and asked them the 'most difficult player' they had faced.

Zaman got hurt during Pakistan's opening match in the Champions Trophy against New Zealand in Karachi, and was later ruled out of the marquee tournament owing to a recurring knee injury. He was replaced in the squad by Imam-ul-Haq. Following the injury, the social media was abuzz with rumours that the 34-year-old top-order batter was planning to end his cricketing career. "Well, I've also heard a lot about this and my friends have also sent messages. There is no truth in this. One-day is my favourite format and, yes, because of my thyroid (problem) I was thinking of taking some time off from cricket.

Former Australia captain Michael Clarke expressed his surprise over Pakistan's playing XI in their Champions Trophy match against India on Sunday. Pakistan made just one change to their side as injured batter Fakhar Zaman, who was ruled out of the tournament after the loss to New Zealand in the tournament opener, was replaced by fellow opener Imam-ul-Haq, who was not part of the initial squad.
