Dutch football fans bring some of city's busiest streets to a standstill during loud and noisy march to Old Trafford

Thousands of FC Twente fans brought parts of city centre to a standstill during a loud and colourful march to Old Trafford this evening.

The Dutch side are taking on Manchester United tonight (Wednesday) in the opening game of their Euorpa League campaign. The Eredivisie club have been given an official allocation of 3,000 tickets, however, it is thought more could have made the trip over from eastern Dutch city of Enschede.

From the early afternoon fans been gathering in and around the pubs in Exchange Square with the atmosphere slowly building throughout the day. READ MORE: Police probing trouble involving Arsenal fans following Man City clash at the Etihad Stadium By the early evening, the square was heaving with rowdy fans clad in the club's red shirts and scarves as they made a cacophony of noise.

As is customary amongst many fans of European clubs, they took part in an organised walk to the stadium before the game. Beginning at 5pm, and escorted by police, they walked en masse through Shambles Square and down onto Deansgate.

Neeskens was part of the Ajax team that won three straight European Cups in the early 1970s and was also a member of the 'Clockwork Oranje' Dutch team that reached consecutive World Cup finals in 1974 and 1978.
Andres Iniesta broke down in tears in an emotional video on his social media in which the former Barcelona and Spain midfielder seemed to announce his playing retirement.
