OAKLAND, Calif. — Angel Reese spent the better part of the past year manifesting a trip to the WNBA Finals. Now, she is just under 24 hours away from Game 1 of this year's championship series between her Atlanta Dream and the Golden State Valkyries.
The stage is set for the WNBA Finals.
SAN FRANCISCO — - Gabby Williams converted two free throws with 1:18 left to put Golden State ahead, two more with 4.1 seconds to go and finished with 26 points facing constant pressure from Atlanta's stingy defense, and the Valkyries held off the Dream 68-64 in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals on Saturday.
If the Aces set the recent standard by winning three of the four past titles, the Valkyries are showing that not all the WNBA history making these days belongs only to Las Vegas.
Editor's note: This story originally ran Friday morning. On Friday night, Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream beat the New York Liberty to earn their first trip to the WNBA Finals since 2013.
