Driver in hospital in 'life-threatening' condition after crash near Trafford Centre

A man was in hospital tonight in a 'potentially life-threatening condition' after a car he was driving hit a lamppost near to the Trafford Centre.

Emergency services were scrambled to Redclyffe Road in Trafford Park at around 7pm on Saturday night. Police said it's believed the man, who hasn't been named, suffered a suspected 'medical episode' at the wheel.

The car, which hasn't been described, left the road and struck the lamppost. READ MORE: Metrolink issues warning over 'full network closure' this weekend Greater Manchester Police tonight issued an appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

In a statement, GMP said: "At around 7pm this evening (Saturday 19 October) on Redclyffe Road, a male driver had a suspected medical episode whilst driving his car, colliding with a lamppost. "A scene is in place and the driver was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains in a potentially life-threatening condition. "GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit is now appealing for anyone who may have dash cam, mobile phone or CCTV footage to come forward and assist an investigation. "Anyone who witnessed the collision is urged to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741, quoting log 2832 of 19/10/2024.
