BREAKING: M62 blocked near Manchester as crews tackle car fire - latest updates

Firefighters are in attendance on the M62 after a car burst into flames this evening. A lane has been closed on the motorway eastbound, between junctions 11 at Birchwood and 12 at Eccles.

Drivers are warned to expect disruption heading from Warrington and Merseyside towards Manchester. Images from the scene show firefighters tackling the blaze on the inside lane of the carriageway.

A spokesperson for National Highways North West wrote on Twitter: "The M62 in Greater Manchester is currently blocked eastbound between J11 and J12 due to a car fire.
