Youri Tielemans to hold Leicester City talks as defender transfer decision ‘ongoing’

The stand-off over Youri Tielemans’ Leicester City future continues and could see him remain at the club for another year before leaving on a free transfer.

Tielemans is at the centre of City’s biggest transfer saga this summer and he has attracted interest from Arsenal and Manchester United. But so far, there has been little progress towards an exit or a contract extension, with the Belgian now in the final 12 months of his City deal.

Brendan Rodgers said there was no update to provide on the club’s contract negotiations with Tielemans, which began more than 18 months ago, and the manager said he would speak to the midfielder next week to establish his thoughts on his future. If no acceptable bids arrive, and no deal is signed, Rodgers did admit it was a “possibility” he could stay before leaving for nothing in a year’s time.

Leicester City target Levi Colwill was left out of Chelsea’s squad to take on Club America in a pre-season friendly in Las Vegas on Sunday.

City are one of a number of clubs said to be interested in a summer move for the central defender. The 19 year-old impressed on a season-long loan at Huddersfield Town last term and could now leave Stamford Bridge in search of game time.

City were said to have shown an interest in the player in the January transfer window as they searched for a left footed centre-back in the mould of . Colwill ticks those boxes, but City may have to play a waiting game should they wish to sign him.
