Yakou Meite sends message to Reading FC supporters following Peterborough United clash

Reading winger Yakou Meite took to Twitter yesterday evening to thank away supporters who travelled to see the Royals draw 0-0 against Peterborough United in what was a crunch-tie for both teams.

The 26-year-old made his first senior start of the season at the Weston Homes Stadium after suffering an ACL injury back in the summer, one that ruled him out of the majority of the season up until this point.

He made his return last weekend when he came on for the final 20 minutes in the Berkshire side’s 3-2 loss against Coventry City, giving Ian Maatsen real problems down the right-hand side and making an impression early on yesterday evening with a sprint down the wing before crossing the ball into the box.

Unfortunately, he was unable to make a real impact despite coming close to opening the scoring in the second half with a well-hit shot, an effort that needed to be parried away by Steven Benda in tricky conditions.

However, many fans were still delighted to see him back in action with his absence being sorely felt earlier this term – and manager Veljko Paunovic’s decision to bring him off for Tom Dele-Bashiru late on in the match certainly wasn’t a popular one.

He took to social media following the match to communicate with what was a very upset fanbase following the final whistle, with some players certainly not in their good books unlike the Ivorian who has been a fan favourite for quite some time.

The 26-year-old posted on Twitter: “Tough game tonight, happy to start my first game for a while.

“Thanks for the fans who travelled. We go again on Saturday”
