World record holding competitive eater takes on Oldham restaurant's 10,000 calorie food challenge - and smashes it
Here in Greater Manchester there’s plenty of food and drink challenges for the brave amongst us to give a go. Whether it’s Brotherhood’s ‘Gutbuster’ challenge, Slattery’s chocolate or Bunny Jackson’s wings, there’s more than a few to give a go.
But a YouTube star from Birmingham has been sharing her experience of taking on the French Toast Challenge at Diggle Lock in Oldham. Leah Shutkever from Redditch in Birmingham took on the challenge last year - and smashed, earning “legendary status” in the process.
But she’s not amateur and has more than 30 Guinness World Record titles to her name, having taken on more than 300 food challenges as a competitive eater. The task at hand was to clear a 3.5kg loaf of French toast stacked high with sweet toppings - all within 30 minutes.

Jamie Collins, the owner of Diggle Lock cafe on Huddersfield Road said that the challenge came about after people started talking about their ‘normal’ sized French toast being rather large and suggested a food challenge. With some spare bread left over, he decided to create a mammoth version of the dish using an entire Pullmans loaf, before topping it with hand-whipped cream, macerate berries, maple sauce, white chocolate and almond crumble.
Naturally, it was on the radar of the UK’s top female professional eater Leah Shutkever who has more than 30 Guinness World Records to her name. In a video shared on her Facebook page, which has more than 1.5 million followers, you can see her make her way through the French toast in record time.
