Woman fighting for life following horror crash in Bury

A woman is fighting for her life in hospital after being hit by a car in Bury. The woman - who is in her 30s - was crossing the road on Manchester Road at around 9.30pm last night (Wednesday, October 2) when she was hit by the Peugeot 108.

She was rushed to hospital after emergency crews arrived. She is in a 'life-threatening' injuries, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said. The driver of the Peugeot - a woman aged in her 50s - stopped on the scene after the smash.

She was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by driving without due care. She remains in custody to be quizzed by detectives.

There was a huge emergency response following the incident. A large number of police cars were pictured at the scene, at the junction of Manchester Road with Dumers Lane, as a stretch of the road was cordoned off.

Investigations were carried out, with a damaged Peugeot 108 pictured inside the taped off area. The windscreen of the car appeared to have been smashed.

Officers from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit now want to speak to any witnesses, or anyone with information or footage. "Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward", a spokesperson for GMP said.
