Man fighting for his life after being found at bus station

A man is fighting for his life after being found unconscious in a bus station last night.

He has been placed in an induced coma in hospital after being discovered by police in Leigh.

The cause of his injuries is unconfirmed at this stage. It's understood detectives are investigating a number of lines of inquiry, including the possibility that he fell or was injured accidentally.

Witnesses reported seeing a number of police car and ambulances at the bus station off King Street in Leigh town centre at around 11.30pm yesterday. Paramedics were also seen treating a man on the floor in one of the stands.

This morning a police scene remains in place, with bus stands J, K and L cordoned off.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Yesterday evening officers attended a report of an unconscious man at Leigh bus station. The man was placed in an induced coma and taken to hospital, where he remains.

"His injuries are deemed to be life-threatening. A scene is in place this morning and the matter is currently being investigated by officers from our CID team.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."

A statement in the Transport for Greater Manchester website says: "Due to a police incident at Leigh bus station, Stands J, K and L are currently not in use. Until further notice, bus services will depart from the following alternative stands: 28A: Ring & Ride; 126/594: Stand F; 610/611: Stand M."
