Wolves receive Nico Gonzalez transfer update as Morgan Gibbs-White wish revealed

Jorge Mendes is reportedly trying to find a new club for Wolverhampton Wanderers target Nico Gonzalez.

The 20-year-old midfielder has been identified as a potential makeweight in the deal to take Ruben Neves to Barcelona. Barcelona are keen to sign Neves this summer, but they don’t have the cash to meet Wolves’ £50million-plus asking price for the Portugal star.

Gonzalez, along with surplus to requirements stars Oscar Mingueza and Riqui Puig, could be used to sweeten the deal for Neves. But Barcelona are reluctant to offload Gonzalez permanently.

The La Masia graduate featured 27 times in La Liga last season and while he isn’t central to Xavi’s immediate plans, Barcelona would prefer a loan deal over a permanent transfer. The midfielder is valued at £21m by Transfermarkt.

Valencia, Real Betis and Real Sociedad have been touted as potential destinations for Gonzalez, in addition to Wolves, and reports now suggest Mendes is looking to accelerate his client’s Camp Nou exit. Barcelona-based journalist Gerard Romero claims Mendes is actively looking for a new club for Gonzalez in light of his reduced game time under Xavi.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have announced AstroPay will become the club's new shirt sponsor after their deal with ManBetX expired.

Malta-based ManBetX have been Wolves' shirt sponsor for the past three seasons after the club exercised a break clause with previous partner W88 in 2019. Wolves initially entered into a two-year agreement with ManBetX before extending it into the 2021/22 campaign.
