Wolves: Lage could bring ‘fantastic’ £21.5m star to Molineux

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been handed a potential boost in their pursuit of SC Braga defender David Carmo, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League following the conclusion of 2021/22, and Molineux has been touted as a possible destination.

According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Wolves are the ‘latest’ club to join the race for Carmo, who is also believed to be on the radar of Liverpool and Manchester United.

It’s claimed that the Midlands outfit have turned their attention to the 6 foot 5 giant after baulking at the €45 million (£38.5m) price tag of first-choice option Goncalo Inacio of Sporting CP.

O Jogo state that Carmo ‘fulfils the demanded requirements’ of manager Bruno Lage as he searches for Romain Saiss’ replacement and that an approach has already been made.

The towering centre-back is said to have a non-negotiable €25m (£21.5m) asking price, which Wolves are now aware of, and could make the switch to English football this summer.

Carmo missed the opening six and a half months of last term after suffering a fractured ankle, but Jones believes his inactivity ‘might actually help’ Wolves in their quest to bring him to the club.  

In an interview with GiveMeSport, Jones said: “David Carmo obviously is a guy that they’re looking at.

“And the fact that he had a serious ankle problem not too long ago might actually help them land him because there were bigger clubs having a look who might just have lost focus on him.

“And it might be that they get a player like that at a time when he could have been going elsewhere.”
