Wolves were 'banking on' major development over 30-cap star at Molineux

Wolverhampton Wanderers believed they would have received more offers than they have for Rúben Neves this summer, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The 25-year-old midfielder had hinted at a potential move away from Molineux after the final game of last season, but it seems that no serious offers have materialised for the former Porto man.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are interested in the midfielder, but aren’t willing to pay Wolves’ €100m (£86.3m) valuation of the player, when speaking on The United Stand.

Arsenal, Newcastle United and Barcelona have also shown interest in the 2017 summer signing, but talks seem to have cooled on any potential move for Neves over the past couple of weeks.

As it stands, it still looks more likely that the 30-time Portugal international will be a Wolves player come their first game of the season at Leeds in August, but the club would want a sale to go through as quickly as possible so they can invest in other targets, should the club receive an acceptable offer.

And according to Crook, he believes that Wolves’ summer transfer plans revolve around whether Neves is sold or not.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think they [Wolves] felt they’d have more offers than they have for Neves.

“I think the price tag they put in was £75m, ultimately that has put people off.

“I think they were banking on him to be sold to free up some money to enable Bruno Lage to rebuild.

“I think the fans are starting to get a bit worried again.”

There is no doubt that fans of Wolves will be delighted if Neves – described by The Athletic’s Tim Spiers as “outstanding” – is to stay at the club and even potentially sign a new deal this summer.
