Wolves: Bruno Lage now looking at £105k-a-week duo at Molineux

Wolverhampton Wanderers are ‘pushing’ to sign West Ham United defender Craig Dawson while Jason Denayer is a ‘fall-back option’, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The Midlands outfit are in the market for a central defender after agreeing to sell the experienced Willy Boly to newly-promoted Nottingham Forest and Conor Coady joined Everton on a season-long loan deal.

Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has revealed that Wolves have tabled an offer for Dawson, who is eager to move back up north for family reasons.

However, Bruno Lage’s charges could face stiff competition from local rivals Aston Villa for the 32-year-old’s signature as they have also reportedly made their interest known.

Dawson still has one year left to run on his £52,000-per-week contract with West Ham but should be available for a reasonable fee if the capital club are willing to sanction his sale.

Meanwhile, former Manchester City ace Denayer is also believed to be on Wolves’ radar following his release from Lyon as a free agent.

Liam Keen from the Express & Star has claimed that ‘Wolves have made an approach’ to sign Belgium the 27-year-old after his £53,000-per-week contract at the Groupama Stadium came to an end over the summer.

Crook believes that Dawson and Denayer are being targeted as cover for the impressive Max Kilman and Nathan Collins, who have started the season in impressive form at the heart of defence.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “Yeah, I think that would only be as cover really, because he (Lage) wants to play a two.

“And obviously he’s got Kilman, who’s very highly-rated and Collins, whose settled in quite nicely, so I think they’re just looking for an experienced back-up.
