Why Manuel Ugarte's debut for Manchester United could be delayed again vs Southampton

It would be a huge shock to see Casemiro start against Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

Casemiro was hooked at half-time in Manchester United's defeat to Liverpool before the international break and it seems highly unlikely he will retain his starting role.

Toby Collyer replaced Casemiro and is highly regarded within the club but Manuel Ugarte was signed on deadline day and would be the logical starter at St. Mary's Stadium.

However, there is a potential spanner in the works because Ugarte played for Uruguay against Venezuela in a World Cup Qualifier on Tuesday night, which means he will face a race against time to start against Southampton for an early Saturday afternoon kick-off.

There will be 85 hours between Ugarte playing for his nation against Venezuela and United playing Southampton, which probably means his chances of starting on the south coast are slim.

The time in Venezuela is six hours behind the United Kingdom, but Ugarte is likelier to begin his journey back to Manchester on Wednesday morning instead of immediately flying back after the World Cup Qualifier at the Estadio Monumental de Maturín on Tuesday night.

Providing that Ugarte travels back from Venezuela and uses a private jet, the journey time is around 10 hours and he won't return to his new home until late on Wednesday night.

That leaves two days - Thursday and Friday - to prepare for Southampton and it's understood Ugarte is likelier to have just one day's training (on Friday) under his belt.
