Why Manchester United youngster Dan Gore is not playing for Port Vale on loan

Manchester United youngster Dan Gore is currently unavailable for selection on loan at Port Vale due to an injury.

Gore signed for Port Vale on loan for the remainder of the season in the January transfer window, but he sustained an injury immediately after signing and he's been unavailable since.

The Manchester Evening News understand the initial assessment of Gore's injury indicated he would be out for a month and he's believed to have picked up the problem in a narrow defeat against Portsmouth on January 27, which means he should be close to a return to action.

Sources have indicated Gore has stayed at Port Value during his recovery and he's not returned to Carrington, which is sometimes an option for United loanees who pick up an injury.

Gore has been absent from every Port Vale matchday squad since making his debut against Portsmouth and the League One club has made a managerial change while he's been out.

Manager Andy Crosby signed Gore on loan and hailed him as an 'elite young talent', but he was sacked at the beginning of last month after winning just once in eight games.

Port Vale have appointed Darren Moore as his successor and he has the challenge of steering the club out of the third tier's relegation zone during the rest of the season.

Gore received interest from Championship side Preston and League One clubs Bolton, Blackpool, Fleetwood and Shrewsbury in January, but Port Vale won the race for his signature.

The youngster spent the first half of the season around United's first-team squad and was handed his senior debut in September against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.
