Why incredible Marcus Rashford snub could be good news for Manchester United

Football supporters are often accused of bias towards their own club but as a neutral on the outside looking in it is easy to see why Manchester United fans may feel aggrieved after the most recent Ballon d'Or nominations.

While Andre Onana's efforts for Inter last season have earned him a spot on the 30-man shortlist, somehow Marcus Rashford has been looked over. His 30 goals in Erik ten Hag's maiden campaign saved United from a near-certain disastrous first year under the Dutchman.

The Reds' lack of firepower was apparent for all to see yet, after such a poor season the year prior, Rashford managed to refocus himself and help drag his club to crucial victories. His goal against Manchester City at Old Trafford and his performance at Barcelona both stood out as landmark moments for the 25-year-old.

However, for those who have drawn up the nominations for the Ballon d'Or this was not seen as enough. A lot of criticism which circulates around the award emulates from the bias towards established stars.

Lionel Messi's mediocre season at PSG was saved by him winning the World Cup with Argentina and has thus deemed him worthy of a nomination. Liverpool's Mohamed Salah scored a goal less than Rashford and won zero trophies last season but he is also on the list too.

For some reason, Rashford's efforts are overlooked. Looking at what he did for United he is right to feel aggrieved by the decision from the Ballon d'Or committee but this could be a blessing in disguise for the Reds.
