Why Hannibal Mejbri is starting and Lisandro Martinez is missing for Manchester United vs Burnley

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has started Hannibal Mejbri against Burnley because he'll bring 'energy' to the midfield.

United have lost three consecutive fixtures and they've conceded 10 goals in that poor string of results, which means a win against relegation candidates Burnley on Saturday night is important to alleviate some pressure.

Ten Hag has made three changes from the starting line-up that played against Bayern Munich in the Champions League earlier this week, with Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Facundo Pellistri coming out of the team.

Martinez is absent from the squad with an injury, while Eriksen and Pellistri have been named on the bench, which means Jonny Evans, Scott McTominay and Hannibal Mejbri have been given opportunities to start.

"Licha Martinez is injured, that's why he's not available and with Hannibal and Scott McTominay, we want to bring energy to the midfield, some power and we think we need that," Ten Hag told MUTV.

"He [Evans] will bring organisation, communication and he's composed. He knows the job, he knows exactly what to do and he's had enough games. He comes in and he will do the job.

"Everyone knows when you arrive here [Burnley] it's a tough place to be and it's down to us to fight."

Ten Hag was asked about the bench looking stronger and he said: "Yes, good news, also Mason Mount is coming, so I'm sure the players will return, but for today, it's about this game, but on the bench, we have options."
