Killer drivers, owner of dangerous dogs which mauled six-year-old and robber among those locked up this week in Greater Manchester

Killer drivers and the owner of a pack of dangerous dogs which attacked a six-year-old girl are among the criminals to have been locked up this week. Also beginning a jail sentence this week is a robber who targeted two victims in the space of an hour in Manchester city centre.

A cocaine-fuelled driver tried to blame police for his 'extremely dangerous' driving which caused the death of a much-loved grandmother. Chad Rimmington, 32, was sentenced to ten years and eight months in prison after Kathleen Kirby was killed in Wigan.

She was walking along the pavement with Cliff Bullen, her partner of more than 20 years. They were making their way home after a visit to a nature reserve.

Rimmington fled from officers 'at great speed' in an Audi TT after they tried to pull him over, Bolton Crown Court heard. He reached speeds of up to 78mph in a 30mph zone, on a Monday afternoon in a built-up area.

Rimmington crashed into an innocent Amazon delivery van, with the vehicle then spinning out of control and hitting 66-year-old Ms Kirby. She was killed and Mr Bullen narrowly avoided a similar fate.

After the horror crash, Rimmington was pulled from the car and arrested. He told officers at the scene: "I’ve killed someone, I’m so sorry. I deserve to die."
